The Iford Estate Biodiversity Project

We Are Passionate Front Runners In The Creation Of UK Biodiversity. We aim to become an exemplar landscape restoration project, creating new habitat across 1200ha of farmland in the South Downs National Park.
By 2025 we will have created and restored habitat and created space for nature, allowing our diversity of species to expand over the whole estate, whilst still retaining food production over the most fertile land.
A Different Approach...
We want our Biodiversity scheme to be the very best it can be. We have taken great care to plan what it will look like and what its effect on our landscape, environment and community will be. By the same token we want to work with developers and investors who take the same approach to their business or development. Before we accept investment we conduct thorough due diligence on the prospective purchaser to ensure they meet our high standards.

Lyons Report

In 2021 we commissioned renowned local ecologist and entomologist Graeme Lyons (The Lyons Share (analternativenaturalhistoryofsussex.blogspot.com) ) to conduct what he calls a Bioblitz. For 9 days during the summer Graeme paid 3 visits to the farm spending one hour in each of a number of predetermined zones, counting and recording every species found, including plants, insects, birds and mammals. The results of his survey are quite extraordinary and reveal the depth of biodiversity found on the Estate. Graeme recorded about 1200 species of which about 100 had some form of conservation status, some having not been recorded in Sussex before. The full report can be downloaded here.
